Miscarriage Support Auckland Inc.

Miscarriage Support Auckland Inc.

Our comprehensive 100 page website offers women empathy, emotional and psychological peer support and acknowledgment that they have experienced both the birth and the death of their baby, normalising and validating their often hidden grief. Rather than rescue them, we offer information and practical suggestions to help with their healing and hope for the future and their subsequent pregnancies. We promote understanding about the consequences of the resulting grief from the 1 in 4 miscarriages that occur in early pregnancy (to 20 weeks). This often goes unrecognised in the community and can become disenfranchised grief, minimized by others. We also specifically offer information to health professionals who may wish to know about their patients' perspective of miscarriage and the psychological consequences of it, helping them to achieve a greater level of understanding and deliver more sensitive and appropriate patient care e.g. not use the terms "product" or "abortion". They may not know what a huge difference their attitude makes and the positive effect professional empathy has on their patients' healthy recovery. Women often need permission to grieve.
