Our Story

Our History
Back in 1978, the Waitematā region was in urgent need of mental health support that reached people in their own communities, not just in clinical settings. That's when our organisation was born, beginning under the Mental Health Service of the Area Health Board.
By 1984, we became an independent organisation, the North Shore Community Health Network Inc., more commonly known as Raeburn House. In 2017, following community feedback, we changed our name to Hearts & Minds NZ to better reflect our focus on supporting every aspect of what makes us human - our emotions, our thinking, and our connections.
What set us apart is our whole-of-person to whole-of-community approach. For over 40 years, we've been turning challenges into opportunities for people of all cultural and socio-economic backgrounds - continuously evolving our services so every person can access the support they need to thrive.
Today, we support over 10,000 people each year.
At the heart of everything we do is a simple belief: when people have access to the right information and support, they are better equipped to make informed choices, set their own wellbeing goals, and thrive.
